Characteristics of the Transport System:
- The transport system in the Agglomeration is diverse in terms of equality and accessibility.
- In Konin, the rolling stock is 100% low-floor.
- In PKS Konin, which provides transport services in the Agglomeration, buses are not low-floor, which is a standard in out-of-town transport. The quality of the stops varies greatly.
- A big problem is the availability of public transport during off-peak hours.
- Due to the existence of the A2 Motorway, logistics centres are located in the Agglomeration, e.g. in the village of Stare Miasto (located south of Konin).
Needs of the Functional Area:
- Increasing the frequency of public transport.
- Integration of different modes of public transport through the construction of new interchanges in different places of the functional area (railway, city bus, suburban bus).
- Introduction of solutions towards tariff integration of various modes of public transport, in particular among numerous private carriers – preferring the development of a local operator PKS.
- Development of low-emission transport through the modernisation of the bus fleet.
Institutional capacity assessment:
- The Konin Agglomeration Association, which coordinates the process of preparing the SUMP, is a newly established institution (in fact, it has been operating for a little over a year), so it does not have much experience in preparing planning and strategic documents. The Association has so far commissioned, among m.in, the development of the Supra-Local Development Strategy of the Konin Agglomeration 2030. It should be emphasized, however, that the Association operates with great support and support from local governments, having no problem in organizing meetings or obtaining data and information. It is important that the city of Konin (the leader of the association) plays a very important role in the settlement hierarchy of this part of Polish and as a fairly large city it has appropriate structures in the City Hall to co-create and implement the SUMP.
Interesting facts:
- Intermodal transport availability index of Konin FUA is one of the highest in Poland.
- The Warta River flows through the central part of the Agglomeration, from which the Warta-Gopło canal branches. Both of these routes are inland waterways.
