Characteristics of the Transport System:
- The transport system of the Iława Functional Area ensures equality and accessibility regardless of gender, age, or physical fitness level of travelers.
- However, there are significant differences in access to the public transport system within the Functional Area (both within the city and in the rural municipality of Iława, where there are localities not served by public transport) as well as a noticeable variation in its quality (number of routes, connectivity, transport services on weekends and holidays).
- Particularly pronounced are the differences in transport accessibility levels between several main streets of Iława, peripheral areas of the city (average or poor accessibility), and rural areas characterized by poor or very poor accessibility.
Needs of the Functional Area:
- Improving the accessibility of the FUAs’ peripheral areas.
- Increasing the frequency of public transport.
- Improving the punctuality of public transport services by reconstruction of the railway crossing at Wyszyńskiego Street in Iława.
- Broadening the integration of different modes of public and sustainable individual transport by extending the choice of means of transport to e.g. bicycle or scooter at the railway station in Iława.
- Introduction of solutions towards tariff integration of various modes of public transport.
- Development of low-emission transport in Iława.
Institutional capacity assessment:
- The Department of Planning, Investments, and Monitoring of the Iława City Hall, responsible for coordinating the preparation of the SUMP for the Iława Functional Area, despite having limited experience in preparing strategic documents of a supra-local scope, demonstrates a strong commitment to the ongoing preparatory work. This unit has experience in preparing strategic documents related to the city of Iława and their implementation, as well as in planning, executing, and monitoring urban investments.
Interesting facts:
- Iława, known as the “Land of a Thousand Lakes,” is strategically positioned along Lake Jeziorak, Poland’s longest lake, which spans over 27 kilometers, making it a significant geographical feature of the region.
- The town serves as an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a diverse range of recreational activities, including well-maintained hiking and cycling trails that traverse the lush forests and picturesque landscapes, showcasing the area’s natural beauty.
