What is a mobility plan (SUMP)?
SUMP (Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan) is a long-term strategy focused on ensuring good access to destinations and services, including an implementation plan.
In accordance with the position of the European Commission expressed in the Guidelines Development and implementation of a sustainable urban mobility plan, the basic features of a SUMP are:
- long-term vision and a clear implementation plan,
- participatory approach,
- balanced and integrated development of all means of transport,
- horizontal and vertical integration,
- assessment of current and future effectiveness,
- regular monitoring, review and reporting,
- taking into account external costs for all means of transport,
What are the main objectives of the mobility plan?
- providing all citizens with transport options that allow access to destinations and services,
- improvement of security,
- contributing to the reduction of air pollution and noise, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption,
- improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of transporting people and goods,
- positive impact on the attractiveness and quality of the urban environment for the benefit of residents, the economy and the community as a whole.
